Blind date

Kerri Berry, 56
Market stall holder, specialising in adult, life size, blow up toy dolls. Recently became single after a fatal accident with a safety pin. Likes anything but not keen on soft toys. Life ambition is to meet a life partner who loves wearing chain-mail.

Jim Morgan, 28

Model for Action Man products & chunky knit, knitting patterns. Single since yesterday. Likes making soft toys and jam tarts. Life ambition is to find a life partner and make a jam roly poly together.
Kerri on Jim:
What were you hoping for?
A face like Billy Hignett, a brain like Chris Whitty and a personality like Joe Wicks.
First impressions?
Drop dead gorgeous, although a terrible taste in chunky knit jumpers - also had a strong whiff of strawberry jam about him.
What did you talk about?
Jobs, philosophy, whether wearing chain-mail would cause chaffing.
Any awkward moments?
I misunderstood what he meant when he said he does ‘modelling’– I was expecting to see his portfolio, not a folder full of chunky knit, knitting patterns with cut outs of his face glued over the models.
Good table manners?
Very! He kindly waited until my food had arrived and then we sat there until it was all taken away again.

Best thing about Jim?
Incredibly knowledgeable about the safe use of safety pins, and now I am too.
Would you introduce him to your friends?
Gosh, NO!, I think they would find him too quiet.
Describe Jim in three words
Rigid, emotionless and quiet
What do you think he made of you?
Probably exactly the same, but hopefully friendly.

And... did you swap numbers?
We did indeed!

If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
I’d have refrained from picking up 2 spoons and doing a recital of Mozart’s requiem mass in C minor.

Marks out of 10?
3 – Jim was lovely, but I think we’re very different but somehow strangely very similar.

Would you meet again?
No, I don’t think so, it’s been a fun evening though. Can I just check, the magazine is picking up the bill - is that correct?

Jim on Kerri:
What were you hoping for?
To meet someone young, fit and with a keen interest in designing and making soft toys and a passion for jam roly-poly pudding.
First impressions?
Urmmm !!
What did you talk about?
Kerri spent the evening quizzing me about the use of safety pins versus gaffer tape.

Any awkward moments?
Kerri asked about what car I drove (a 1958 black Bat Mobile - leather seats, walnut dash, alloy wheels). I said, I would have liked to have driven her back to her box, except that my friend Robin had given me a lift tonight.
Good table manners?
Hard to tell as she didn’t eat anything - she’s probably on a diet.
Best thing about Kerri ?
Holds very good eye contact and is a very good listener.

Would you introduce her to your friends?
No! No ! No! No!!.
Describe Kerri in three words
Stiff, expressionless, and different.
What do you think she made of you?
Rigid and kind of quirky.

And… did you swap numbers?
Yes she’s model number: 4312679 and I’m model number: 4319762 which she preferred, so we swopped

If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?
I would have ordered jam tarts for my starter and jam roly poly for my main course - both were on the menu which was amazing!
Marks out of 10?
6. I didn’t feel that mysterious connection. However, I had a good time and Kerri was an interesting date - we had a lot in common .
Would you meet again?
Yes, I think so, Kerry was not really different from me and that is refreshing.
